In May 2006, the Maryland-Rio de Janeiro Sister State Committee, Chaired by Debora Fajer-Smith, hosted the Renewable Fuels
Conference at the Aspen Institute Wye Wood Center on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The one and a half day conference brought together energy professionals from around the globe to share their expertise and make business to business connections.

On her most recent mission to Brazil in April 2008, Maryland
– State of Rio de Janeiro Sister State Committee Chair Debora Fajer-Smith
was named Honorary Ambassador by the prestigious Grael Project. Ms. Fajer-Smith
has devoted much time and effort over the last several years to supporting
the Project which offers underprivileged children in Niterói, Brazil the
opportunity to study and enjoy the sport of sailing.
