The Wayside Cross World War I Monument in Towson stands in a brick-paved park on York Road at Shealey Avenue, just south of the intersection with Joppa Road. Standing approximately fifteen feet in overall height, the monument is composed of an octagonal granite pedestal topped by a simply-carved granite Celtic cross. The pedestal carries bronze plaques on four sides. Two flag poles stand to the rear of the monument.

The Wayside Cross, dedicated on Defenders Day, September 12, 1921, is significant for its commemoration of the citizens of Baltimore County who died in the war. It also embodies the distinctive characteristics of the wayside cross war memorial, one of three known in the state.
