The Office of the Secretary of State of Maryland has historically given its view as to whether a particular use of the Maryland State Flag is lawful under Criminal Law Article §10-701 et. seq., as that law has been interpreted by the Attorney General. Additionally, since the Secretary of State served as Chair of the Governor's Commission on Protocol for the Maryland State Flag, the Office of the Secretary of State will also advise as to whether a particular use is appropriate. Please be aware that misuse of the Maryland State Flag may be subject to a penalty.
